Also, my trackpad did not seem to be working either for scrolling, etc. I tried both SMC and PRAM reset, fresh installed Catalina. I ran it on only the charger (with mag-safe board connected and battery disconnected), then disconnected the mag-safe board and ran it from battery only. I would believe if the trackpad and/or keyboard was faulty, disconnecting it would temporary correct the issues? I also disconnected everything to eliminate other hardware (IO board, speakers, webcam, etc, all connectors). Two, once when I unplugged the wireless keyboard+mouse, the native keyboard and trackpad continued working for a while before freezing again. One, on once occasion, the native keyboard and trackpad again stopped responding even when the wireless keyboard+mouse were connected. I disconnected the keyboard, keyboard backlight and trackpad ribbon cables, without any change to neither the fan speed nor the performance. Anyway, here are two more additional pieces of info in case its helpful. Fan is running at full speed and the performance is quite poor. I did spill liquids in the trackpad, but I don’t think any got into the keyboard (all keys seems to work fine), but I can’t say for sure. After updating to iPadOS 14.4.2 my Magic Keyboard for iPad is no longer connecting to my iPad Pro. I rebooted iPad twice and checked to make sure the iPadOS was up to date (which it is) but the Magic Keyboard is still non functional - even though it's charging the iPad (The Magic Keyboard is plugged into my Mac for power. This comment ultimately provided a solution for me. The Keyboard & Trackpad were non-functional - even though the keys light up.
